Beavers
The 12th South West Cheshire (1st Shavington) Beaver Section meets every Thursday evening at Scout HQ, Main Road, Shavington, from 6.30 to 7.45 pm. During the warmer months meetings and activities take place in a variety settings such as Milldale, the District Scout Campsite or the Church Field in Shavington.
The Beaver section currently has one leader, 'Swallow' and a young leader 'Kit', along with around 12 Beavers, girls and boys. Additionally we have good support from parents who assist on a rotational basis.
In total the Beaver section is aimed at boys and girls rainging from 6-8 years of age. Divided into lodges; Beavers are encourgaed to work as a team, to support each other and to have fun and adventure.
Whilst having fun, Beavers work through a balanced programme to gain a range of badges and awards, which they proudly display on their uniform. Badge work incorporates a range of themes including Promise, Friendship, Fitness, Creative, Global and Outdoor Challenges alongside staged activity badges including Hikes and Nights Away. Additional themes include Health & Fitness, Animal Friend and Imagination to name a few. During working through badgework, the Beavers can be awarded the highest Beaver badge, the Chief Scout Bronze Award, which is usually obtained if they have met the requirments.
Beavers have ample opportunity to share their scouting experience with other Beavers, Cubs and Scouts through a range of District and Group events organised throughout the year. Events range from themed fun days, hikes, sleepovers, camp visits, sport and nature activities, quiz and Christmas events. Ultimately we aim to provide the young children with a range of opportunities to develop their skills and understanding whilst having fun and making a valuable contribution to the local community.
This year we are celebrating Beavers 25th Anniversary, which as a year will include various celebration events, including a Beaver district party.
