Scouts
The 12th South West Cheshire (1st Shavington) Scout troop meets every Monday evening in our Scout HQ in Main Road, Shavington, from 8.00 to 9.30 pm. During the Summer months we often hold our evening meetings at Milldale, the District Scout Campsite, which is not far from our HQ.
At present the troop has 15 members, consisting of three patrols these being Falcons, Wolfs and Stags. Older scouts are appointed as patrol and assistant patrol leaders, taking on the responsibility of their small group during activities.
The Pack currently has two qualified leaders and two explorer scouts who help run the weekly meetings and external activities.
As part of being a Scout, members work towards Awards and Badges based on a wide range of skills as part of their own self development. Troop meetings are aimed at being fun as well as informative, hence badge work is also mixed with games and activities that are based around core competencies behing Scouting, especially team building.
Over the last 12 months, the troop has completed many activities, some of which are listed below:-
- District competition camp
- Hike in the peak district
- 10 pin bowling
- Christmas camp
- Completion of model maker & DIY activity badges
Plans for the future are well under way, with the emphasis being on the great outdoors and the skills required. The Scout's own objective, is to enter as many teams as possible into the 2008 Cheshire Hike with the knowledge that they will have the experience to complete the course in the fastest time possible.
