Shavington has a monthly magazine called Village Voice. The latest Scouting contribution is shown below.
As we approach the end of the summer term we reflect on our outdoor activities this year.
During the last term, Beavers, Cubs and/or Scouts have (in no particular order): camped, hiked, lit fires, laid trails, built shelters in the woods, cooked on an open fire without pans (backwoods cooking), visited Camelot, enjoyed air rifle shooting, competed in sporting challenges, created craft items, dipped ponds, and just generally enjoyed being in the great outdoors!
In addition to regular weekly meetings, Beavers had a District weekend family camp at Milldale (where parents and siblings camp with us and enjoy many exciting activities). They will also visit Shire Farm before the end of term. Cubs held their own weekend camp, also at Milldale, during one of the hottest weekends of the year, whilst the Scouts travelled to and camped at Queen Charlotte's Wood near Frodsham.
The Group also took part in the recent Santune Village Fayre, where we were responsible for 2 very busy bouncy castles.
Many badges have been earned and challenges completed, all of which whilst having fun, and the Group will hold an end-of-term duck race and barbecue at Milldale with a special event for parents!
During the holidays, some Scouts and Leaders will be going to summer camp with another local Group, and some of our Cubs and Leaders will be attending a special weekend for Cubs at Chamboree - this is Cheshire's own International Scout Jamboree, held every 4 years at Tabley. This promises to be an unforgettable experience for the youngsters, as it will be attended by Scouts from many different countries.
During the school holidays the Leader team will have a well-earned rest to re-charge their batteries before next term begins. We are always looking for enthusiastic adults to join us, as we cannot provide a wide variety of activities for the youngsters without adequate adult supervision. And it is fun for adults too! As well as providing "job satisfaction" as the young people develop their characters and practical skills to become mature, reliable and trustworthy members of society.
